The Cat 'n' Fiddle is a marvellous road, in my experience best enjoyed early morning (between 5 & 6 AM) in the summer months before Plod has had chance to hide the speed cameras. My partner works at nearby Macclesfield Hospital and there is practically a constant stream of injured or dead bikers from this road. It's easy to misjudge your entry speed to some of the bends, and there are plenty of drowsy sheep in the early mornings too. Start from Macclesfield and before you get to buxton turn right down the A64, heading back towards Bosley. This is also a fantastic stretch of road with some sharp dips and crests, a stonking well-cambered hairpin or two and beautiful views. Not that you'll have much time to appreciate them. Again, the last time I drove this road their was an S2000 totalled at the side of the road. Respect the road!
